USC-Keck Geriatric Specialist to Speak at Trojan Affiliates

USC Trojan Affiliates will host guest speaker Dr. Carolyn Kaloostian at its March 7 meeting. Kaloostian is a geriatrician and associate professor at Keck School of Medicine at USC.

Kaloostian is board-certified in family medicine and geriatrics. She completed her residency at the University of Southern California, California Hospital Program, with subsequent fellowships in geriatric medicine at UCLA and hospice and palliative medicine at the Cedar Sinai Medical Center/VA. She received an executive master’s in public health with a global health certificate at UCLA.

She is board member on the Los Angeles American Heart Association and on the Department of Public Health’s Healthy Brain Coalition developing the dementia care strategic plan for L.A. County. Additionally, she is a current nominee for the American Heart Association’s Woman Impact.

USC Trojan Affiliates, a women’s organization located in the San Gabriel Valley, supports the University of Southern California and welcomes all interested women and men to attend its meetings and events. This meeting will focus on new member recruitment. Parents, alumni, and friends of USC are encouraged to attend.

The group meets five times a year at various homes and locations within the San Gabriel Valley and hosts additional social and cultural events while raising needed scholarship funds for USC students. It currently supports scholarship for 10 students who attended local San Gabriel Valley high schools.

USC Trojan Affiliates is in its eighth year of contributing money to its scholarship endowment fund of $100,000 (now well over the initial funded amount), using these funds to support its scholars.

Money is also raised by selling unique USC products — jewelry, scarves, clothing, tablecloths, towels, handmade signs and more.

Members also volunteer at the Pasadena Showcase House to earn funds and participate in the USC Women’s Conference (March 1), USC Day of Service (March 23), Swim With Mike (April 6), USC Homecoming (fall), Town and Gown of USC Holiday Boutique (fall), and USC Trojan Affiliates Holiday Boutique (November), and programs to support the University and its students.

Trojan Affiliates co-presidents, Edie Etmekjian and Ayuko Siegel, and the board of directors look forward to welcoming prospective members to this meeting, which will be held at Verdugo Hills Hospital at 1812 Verdugo Blvd. in Glendale at 7 p.m.

For information and reservations please contact Trojan Affiliates Membership Chairman Kandi Wopschall by Feb. 28 at
