Baseball: San Marino Rebounds, Wins Three Straight

After bouncing back in the Dave Moore Tournament with a two-run victory against Covina, San Marino High baseball strung together a pair of nonleague wins at home over the weekend.

The Titans shut out South El Monte in a Dave Moore Tournament game on Feb. 22, and came away with a five-run win against Flintridge Prep on Feb. 24 to secure their third successive victory.

The trio of wins comes after the Titans’ first loss of the season to Burroughs High in the Dave Moore Tournament opener on Feb. 16.

San Marino (5-1 overall) faced Foothill Tech at home on Feb. 27 ahead of its Rio Hondo League opener on the road against Monrovia on Feb. 29.

Titans junior J.J. Wilson pitched a complete game one-hitter in a shutout victory over the Eagles. The junior struck out seven and walked one in the win.

San Marino senior Ryan Park went 2-for-3 with two hits, a double and an RBI, and also recorded a stolen base.

Titans senior Mikey Yessaian also drove in two runs, and junior Tomas Bilvado recorded a base hit, a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

San Marino senior Sid Danenhauer and freshman Chase Mena both recorded a base hit.

Titans junior Jamie Bercaw went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, while senior Coleman Morning went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in the five-run victory.

Wilson belted a triple and scored a run, while Park drove in one run. Danenhauer recorded a base hit and a run, Yessaian scored a run, and Mena and senior Liam Van Fossan each tallied a base hit.

Five Titans recorded one stolen base: Park, Danenhauer, Bercaw, Yessaian and Van Fossan.

Bilvado scattered three hits and allowed one run over four innings. The junior also struck out four and walked three before junior Caleb Newton came in for three scoreless innings of relief, striking out two batters and walking one.
