Titanium Robotics Wins Sustainability Award at Regional Contest

Members of San Marino High School’s Titanium Robotics Engineers recently completed a successful competition over three days at the Los Angeles Regional in El Segundo.

The team finished 13th out of 44 teams after the qualification rounds, competing against many high schools in engineering, technical and math/science fields.

The team qualified for the championship rounds, but were eliminated in the quarterfinals. After many ups and downs, the students rallied, fixed the robot, fixed the programming and competed well in all matches.

Titanium Robotics won the Team Sustainability Award, which recognizes a team that has developed sustainable practices to have a positive environmental impact and achieve long-term continuity.

“This is the first time we have won this award and demonstrates the lasting and ongoing value of the team,” SMHS said in its newsletter. “Great job, Titanium Robotics and Mr. [Scott] Barton!”

Freshman Andy Dang won a Safety Star of the Day for his role as Safety Captain of the team. The team also won a new 3D printer as part of an essay written by presidents Gavin Morris and Makenna Wong.
