City Takes Reins of Independence Day Celebrations

San Marino city officials are assuming management responsibilities to celebrate the Independence Day, carrying on a cherished community tradition previously organized by the San Marino Rotary Club.

The city and club have agreed to transfer responsibilities of the community’s vibrant celebration and beloved festivities —  the “4th of July Parade-Palooza” and the “4th of July Independence Day Celebration.”

“I’m thrilled that the City Council was able to work with our staff to find a way to transition this great tradition to the city to keep it going for years to come,” Mayor Steven Huang said. “I want to thank the Rotary Club for their many years of stewardship of this wonderful event and for being wonderful partners to the city and our residents.”

After decades of managing the parade, the San Marino Rotary Club requested that the city assume the lead role in the organization of it. Rotary members will still participate in the parade and generously volunteer to offer assistance.

The Independence Day parade, named “Parade-Palooza” this year, kicks off in the late afternoon on July 4 at 4:45 p.m., just before the dazzling fireworks display.

The city invites all community groups, organizations and businesses to join in spreading San Marino community spirit all along the lively parade route.

Spanning approximately 1.5 miles along Monterey Road to Virginia Road, the parade winds its way through San Marino neighborhoods, culminating in the heart of the city at Lacy Park.

To participate, interested parties can access the parade application form and more details at SanMarinoCA.gov/Fireworks. The deadline for submissions is June 17 at noon.

In addition to announcing the new management role, city officials are seeking nominations for the esteemed position of Grand Marshal for this year’s parade. The Grand Marshal is a symbol of the community’s spirit and dedication, representing those who have made significant contributions to the betterment of San Marino.

The city encourages all residents to submit their nominations. The nomination form is available at  SanMarinoCA.gov/Fireworks with a deadline of May 31. For more information or inquiries, contact the Recreation Division at (626) 943-2627.
