SMHS Grad Quan Rings Closing Bell at NASDAQ

Joseph Quan, a 2007 graduate of San Marino High School, received the honor of ringing NASDAQ’s closing bell on Friday, June 16 in Times Square.

In his speech at NASDAQ’s closing bell ceremony, Quan referred to Twine’s mission and the issue they are addressing.

“We set out to help some of the world’s largest and best companies retain and keep their top millennial talent,” he said. “We’re also passionate about helping those very same employees grow with, rather than grow out of, their companies.”

Quan began his career as a consultant, advising Fortune 500 technology companies including Microsoft and Facebook on enterprise software, go-to-market strategy and consumer application product development.

While an undergraduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, Quan focused on Economics, including Econometrics and Behavioral Economics as well as organizational dynamics. He also conducted research on corporate culture and innovation.

This past May, he earned his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. It was at Wharton that he started Twine, along with fellow MBA Nikhil Srivastava.

In less than a year, Twine has established a presence in the world of human resources. Quan presented to the likes Ashton Kutcher and top venture capitalists Guy Oseary and Peter Boyce II at the Forbes Under 30 Summit. In addition to winning Penn Entrepreneurship’s startup challenge, Twine has also been heralded as having Forbes’ Elevator Pitch of the Month. In the fall, Quan will speak at the HR Technology Conference and Expo, the world’s largest of its kind.

Quan will soon be moving Twine from its current headquarters in Philadelphia to New York City, where he and Nikhil will continue to partner with companies to improve internal hiring.

During his time at San Marino High School, Quan was actively involved with Speech and Debate and served as an editor for both the Titan Shield and Titan Musings.
