Barth Scholarship Applications Now Available From Rotary Club

For the third year, two Barth Scholarships from the Rotary Club of San Marino will be available to graduating seniors of either or both San Marino High School and Southwestern Academy. Each scholarship has a value of $2,500.
The scholarship is named for Rotarian Andy Barth, who has long and generously supported the work of San Marino Rotary Charities. Scholarships are awarded to seniors who are planning to attend a two- or four-year college or university, or a vocational school.
The Rotary scholarship committee seeks to identify the strongest candidates based on their high school GPAs, community service and school activities, awards and honors, and work or internship experiences. The application form is on the San Marino Rotary website: sanmarinorotary.org. Other requirements: a copy of official transcripts, names and contact information of two references, a personal essay, a list of school extracurricular and community service involvement, and a list of jobs or internships. The essay should describe a significant accomplishment or challenge the applicant has experienced and its impact on the applicant. Final candidates will go through an interview process, which will test an applicant’s knowledge of the objectives of Rotary, its five areas of service, and understanding of the 4-Way test.
Last year’s winners were Rachelle Chow from Southwestern Academy and Ethan Wang from San Marino High School.
Completed applications are due Friday, April 2 and are to be emailed to Rotary Barth committee chair Claudia Attallah, at cbattallah@gmail.com. Committee members are Bryan Hathorn, Jessse Hong, Gilda Moshir, Chris Norgaard, Russ Osmonson, Debbie Priester, Denise Wadsworth and Caroline Yu.
