David John Milbrodt, 72, passed into God’s arms on Nov. 12 surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Walter and Gladys Milbrodt, David moved with his family to Ohio when he was 9 months old. He graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1962 where he was class president and played football and basketball. He attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, majoring in mathematics. He continued his education at Ohio State University where he received a master’s degree in computer science. He married and accepted a job in Washington, D.C., with the National Security Agency after graduation.
While living in Maryland, his daughter Rachel was born in 1968 and his son Jeremy in 1971. In 1974, David moved his family to Saline, Michigan, after taking a job with Comshare, a computer software company. In 1977, the company relocated David and his family to California where he lived for the remainder of his life. He worked for Southern California Edison for many years followed by MCI Systemhouse and EDS until his retirement.
David led an active life, enjoying tennis, running (he completed two marathons), hiking and even basketball in his younger years. He also coached his children’s soccer teams. One of the high points of his tennis career was winning the 3.5 National Championships in Hilton Head, South Carolina, with his team. David was an avid reader, often sharing articles with people he knew would enjoy them.
In 1988, David married his lovely wife, Judy, with whom he deepened his relationship with God. David and Judy spent almost 25 years at Sierra Madre Congregational Church before joining Fellowship Monrovia, where he participated and led many small groups, often mentoring members and friends. David and Judy enjoyed traveling, visiting national parks, hiking, enjoying nature (especially the annual wildflower display) and spending time with their grandchildren. David cherished time with his family. Nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by his wife, his children and their families.
Preceded in death by his parents, David is survived by his wife, Judy, his daughter Rachel Fiorillo (Jimmy), his son Jeremy (Julie), grandchildren Jaden and Jenna Milbrodt and Sofia and Evan Fiorillo, his sister Sue Drothler and his brother Doug Milbrodt. A celebration of his life will be held at the Sierra Madre Congregational Church in Sierra Madre at 1 p.m. on Dec. 2.
