Ellen Allen Edison

Ellen Allen Edison passed away peacefully in Pasadena, on January 17, 2023, at the age of 89.
She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Charles Dallas Douglass and Mary McCarson Douglass. Ellen graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in education and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. A Georgia peach to the core, she loved her “Dawgs” and never lost her Southern drawl.
On May 26th, 1956, Ellen married her high school and college sweetheart, Ben Mills Allen.
They initially lived in Atlanta before moving to Ohio where they had two children, Dallas and Douglass. The family then settled in Larchmont, New York. They immensely enjoyed their time there, playing golf and paddle tennis, going to the city, and making lifelong friends.
In 1975, Ben was relocated to California, and the family settled in San Marino. New friendships led to many fun times. They continued their active lifestyle until Ben’s early passing.
On April 5th, 1990, Ellen married Charles Eidson. “Chuck” was a true gentleman, patient and kind. He was happiest with a baby on his lap surrounded by his family. Besides traveling, they loved being with friends and taking their grandchildren to the movies. Ellen and Chuck enjoyed their life together until his passing in 2005.
Fun, independent and outspoken, Ellen lived life to the fullest. She loved socializing with friends and meeting new people. She enjoyed volunteering at Huntington Memorial Hospital and St. Edmund’s Episcopal Church.
Her hobbies included playing golf and bridge with her dear friends at Annandale Golf Club, going to the theater, trying new restaurants, and skiing. She was also passionate about seeing the world. Her extensive travels included trips throughout Africa, Asia and Europe.
She is survived by her children Dallas (Gary) and Douglass (Lynn), steadfast sister Nancy (Jack), and their children Carson and Sloan. She is also survived by her stepchildren Linda, Tim and Megan (Jeff). Ellen “Gammy” will be greatly missed by her six grandsons: Benjamin and William Brewer; Henry, Charles, Ben and John Allen; and her six step-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on February 9th at St. Edmund’s Church, San Marino. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
