Gerald Thomas Oldknow | Obituary

Gerald Thomas Oldknow

Gerry, as he was known, peacefully passed away on October 11 on a sunny afternoon.

By his side, his loving wife Vivienne of 56 years held his hands as he gently passed. Gerry’s parents Harry and Doris plus his brother Stanley preceded him many years ago.

Gerry was born in Darwen, England, where he was educated.

He leaves behind his wife Vivienne, son Andrew and his wife Michelle, and grandchildren Mia and Austin Oldknow.

Gerry, Vivienne and Andrew immigrated to America in 1973 following his dream to work in the movie and entertainment industry as a film buyer for DeAnza Company in Los Angeles. His journey in the industry started in Rochdale, England, working at the Odeon theater, managing large event headlines such as Elvis Presley, Sammy Davis Jr. and the Beatles.

Golf and English football were his favorite sports. Gerry was an avid golfer and spent many years perfecting his putting at San Gabriel Country Club with his mates and intently reading all the golf magazines at home. His other passion started at a very young age in Blackburn, England, walking to the local Blackburn Rover’s stadium with his dad, Harry to cheer on one of the Premiership’s oldest clubs. Gerry always wore blue sweaters in honor of his two favorite teams, the Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City.

Gerry loved his family and friends. He will be sadly missed.

In lieu of flowers, please send charity to Hospice at vitascommunityconnection.org as they took such amazing care of him during his last few days.

A celebration of Gerry’s life will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the San Marino Congregational UCC Church, located at 2560 Huntington Drive, San Marino, CA 91108. It will be followed by a garden reception at 2439 Coniston Place in San Marino.
