Gilbert “Gil” Ontiveros passed away on March 30, 2024, at the age of 89 in San Marino, California. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on June 26, 1934.

Gil was a wonderful and loving father, grandfather, and friend. He had a huge sense of humor and loved his family and being a teacher. He was an avid supporter of the community and always saw the best in people.

Gil grew up in Boyle Heights, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, where he attended Roosevelt High School. After he graduated from high school, he attended East Los Angeles College and was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving his country in the Army. He was also a proud alumnus of California State University, Los Angeles, and obtained a master’s degree at Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles. Gil served as a teacher, administrator, and vice principal for the L.A. Unified School District.

Gil also enjoyed watching USC Football and supported many California sports teams. He was very involved with his Roosevelt alumni group as well as Circle K and Veterans group.

Gil is survived by his three daughters and two grandchildren who will miss their beloved Popo. Service was held at the San Gabriel Mission Archangel on Monday, April 15.
