Dobson to Speak on Disney’s Success at City Club Dinner

Terry Dobson, professor and former Disney Imagineer, will be the guest speaker at a City Club dinner meeting on May 21 at the San Marino Community Center, located at 1800 Huntington Drive.

Dobson, who received his MFA from Yale University, is director of design studies at Azusa Pacific University. His prior career at Walt Disney Imagineering as a creative director designing theme park attractions for two decades, was recognized with a Themed Entertainment Award, and inauguration into Disney Inventors’ Hall of Fame through a patent for design and technological innovation.

The principles he learned about the design and development of Disney theme parks continue to inspire professionals and shape the field of user experience design today. Dobson’s belief in the power of creativity and innovation, along with his emphasis on understanding and meeting the needs of his audience, are central to his design and teaching philosophy.

At the City Club meeting, Dobson will share the 10 principles behind Disney’s success. He will also highlight the importance of storytelling, visual communication and maintaining a strong identity in creating a positive user experience.

Dobson serves as moderator of the trustees, as well as a Life Group leader for San Gabriel Presbyterian Church. He is also a Cub Scouts Webelos Den leader, and Cubmaster for 150 families in San Marino, where he lives with his wife and four sons.

Joining Dobson at the dinner will be his best friend and San Marino Cub Scout Pack 354 mascot, Igor the parrot.

The welcome reception will open at 5:45 p.m. and the dinner meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. City Club members and guests must register at sanmarinocityclub.org. This dinner meeting is included for current City Club members. Guests are welcome to attend this dinner meeting for $30 per individual to be paid at the door.
