The Huntington Middle School orchestras held their final concert of the year recently. In his opening comments, director Rob Folsom shared some thoughts, which helped set the tone for the evening. “The last concert of year is always bittersweet as we say goodbye to our 8th-grade students.” He went on to explain that the evening was as much a celebration of the 8th-grade students as it was about the music they would be performing. Highlights included a bass solo by 8th-grader Lawrence Long playing Jacque Offenbach’s “Can-Can” and Haydn’s Sonata for two cellos in G minor played by Christopher Jang and Nathaniel Yue. The award ceremony followed with Folsom sharing a variety of funny and interesting recollections of each 8th-grade student. The concert ended with an emotional “Yesterday,” written by Paul McCartney.
