Methodist Hospital Launches Rehab Campaign

by Winston Chua

ARCADIA – Methodist Hospital Foundation last week invited friends and guests to a reception at a private Pasadena location marking the inaugural of the hospital’s rehabilitation unit campaign.

A few of the guests with San Marino affiliations on hand included City Manager John Schaefer and his wife Kaetchen, Virginia Huang, Ling Huang, former Chinese Club President Calvin Lo and Matt McIntyre.

The reception was a kick off to educate the community on the new rehab unit, which will be located on the third floor of Berger Tower. The entire project will take about 15 months to complete and will expand the number of beds from 20 to 30.

The new unit will feature larger rooms and larger bathrooms, along with more expansive therapy spaces.

“Patients will be more connected to appropriate areas of the hospital,” said Methodist Hospital Foundation President Mike Driebe. “This will help a lot of people who have to relearn how to perform the functions many of us take for granted.”

Others who could take advantage of the unit are those who’ve just had a stroke, knee replacements, new hips, spinal injury, amputations and sepsis. The new facility will help patients reestablish their independence.
