Timothy Howard to Perform Free Organ Recital Nov. 10

Organist Timothy Howard will open Pasadena Presbyterian Church’s 2014-15 Friends of Music concert series with a free recital on the church’s magnificent Æolian-Skinner pipe organ on Monday, November 10, at 8 at 585 E. Colorado Blvd. (corner of Madison Ave.) in the Playhouse District of downtown Pasadena. The recital is co-sponsored by the Los Angeles chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

As are all programs on the seven-concert Friends of Music series, the recital is free (a freewill offering will be taken). Free parking is available and the Sanctuary is handicap-accessible.

In his program, Howard will play music by Johann Sebastian Bach, André Fleury, Paul Halley, and Cal State Northridge Professor Emeritus William Toutant. Howard will also create an improvisation for the program.

Dr. Howard has been Organist Pasadena Presbyterian Church since 2004 and Director of Music since 2008. His recitals and collaborative appearances have been hailed as “precision-cut” and filled with “superb grace and élan” (The Orange County Register). He is featured regularly on American Guild of Organists (AGO) chapter and church recital series, and 2014 marked his ninth season as principal keyboard continuo player at the Corona del Mar Baroque Music Festival.

In addition to solo organ recitals, his live performances of his organ scores for the silent films Nosferatu and From the Manger to the Cross have become quite popular.
