San Marino City Council Passes Moratorium

By Krista Daly

A 45-day moratorium, which bans the issuance of building permits, the issuance of demolition permits or anything involving second story additions to an existing two-story house in the city of San Marino, was unanimously approved on Wednesday, April 8.

The San Marino City Council discussed the item at length during their regular meeting, considering several new standards concerning appeal fees, neighborhood notification, historic preservation and more. A more detailed ordinance will be presented at the next city council meeting, where council members can approve language changes discussed Wednesday.

“I think the reason for a moratorium is the city needs time to review its approval process and make recommendations to be consistent,” said Mayor Eugene Sun.
