Tax Measures to be Placed on San Marino’s November Election Ballot

By Krista Daly

San Marino City Council has officially given notice that a general election will be held on Nov. 3, 2015. Aside from voting to elect two city council members, there will also be two local measures placed on the ballot– a public safety tax and a utility user tax.

The city council introduced the public safety tax during the regular June 10 meeting as well as directed staff to return with the necessary documents to place the utility user tax on the ballot.

The public safety tax, which will expire on June 30, 2016, is a tax on each parcel of real property in the city. The public safety tax has been in place for more than 30 years, and it can only go for paramedic, police and fire protection services, said City Clerk Veronica Ruiz during a presentation at the June 10 city council meeting.
