SMUSD Teacher of the Year Honored

Yvonne Mejia

Yvonne Mejia, San Marino Unified School District’s 2015-16 Teacher of the Year, was honored by the LA County Office of Education on Friday, Sept. 18.

“Mrs. Mejia is an exemplary teacher, consistently going above-and-beyond in the interest of children,” said Carver Principal Liz Hollingsworth.

Mejia has been Carver School’s Physical Education teacher since 1996. She serves the schools and community through her daily instruction in P.E., laying the foundation for how a child feels towards fitness and health for life.

San Marino Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss said choosing Mejia was easy.

“Yvonne is great with the kids,” he said. “The students learn a great deal about physical education and living a healthy, active life.”

Mejia also does a lot outside of her daily job, including being in charge of safety and security at Carver.
