Delicious Destinations – a popular community fundraising event for San Marino’s local public library – returns Saturday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. at Crowell Public Library.
The San Marino library will be transformed into several American cities, including Miami, New York, New Orleans and San Francisco, as party-goers enjoy the sights, sounds, and flavors of an all-American road trip, while raising funds to support the library.
“This year, our fifth year of travel around the globe, Delicious Destinations is going to keep us closer to home, and visit sites of the lower 48,” said San Marino Public Library Foundation Board President Richard de Lorimier. “We’ll transform the Crowell Public Library to destinations on both coasts and tasty locations in between. Route 66 will be our path of travel, but ours will hit some places the real one bypasses – and we’ll use less gas!”
The annual event is put on by the volunteers of the San Marino Public Library Foundation. These dedicated community members work all year long to raise funds to support the library, and the weekend of Oct. 10 will decorate the building’s interior to represent various cities of the U.S., complete with food stations themed for each locale. The night will also include live musical entertainment and silent auction items to help raise much-needed funds.
“Those who have joined us in the past know that our silent auction is known throughout the city for its unique and diverse offerings,” de Lorimier said. “This auction is the backbone of our event, and helps us fund the library’s mission to offer quality cultural, education, recreational and technological programs and materials for all ages. Our library remains a meeting place for many members of our community, and is a vital extension of San Marino schools.
“Delicious Destinations, and all the programs at the Crowell Public Library, are made possible by committed individuals and groups for whom we are very thankful,” de Lorimier said. “The San Marino City Council, the library staff and all the support departments at the city are key to the success of this wonderful evening. We thank our sponsors, the local merchants and the silent auction donors for supporting this event. And of course, the many dedicated and tireless volunteers who wrangle the logistics of the evening are essential to our success.”
San Marino resident Millie Steinbrecher said, “We went for the first time last year, and had such a good time, we just had to get our tickets as soon as we could! We’re looking forward to another wonderful evening with friends.”
