Wallace Neff Decision Not Expecated Until Early Next Year

By Stacy Lee

The San Marino Planning Commission will likely not make a decision on the fate of a Wallace Neff-designed house at 1040 Oak Grove Ave. until early next year.

The Planning Commission continued the proposal to tear the home down on Sept. 23 until a historic resource assessment is done in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act review.

A new two-story 8,096-square-foot house with eight bedrooms, eight bathrooms, three powder rooms, a four-car garage and a pool house with a bathroom is proposed.

“It’s in the hands of the architect and homeowner on what they want to do now,” City Planning and Building Director Aldo Cervantes said. “They could choose to move forward, which means we’d have to get a third-party consultant hired by city and paid for by the applicant.”
