San Marino’s Lacy Park opened its gates up to the public on Oct. 30 after major construction was completed.

Mainly, the inner loop was transformed as 607 tons of rubberized asphalt was laid down for new pavement and 5,000 lineal feet of curb and gutter was installed, said Dean Werner, Park and Public Works manager. He added that five drinking fountains were installed (including one for dogs, which was donated by the Garden Club) as well as four infiltration basins, 20 new picnic benches, updated irrigation and many new trees.

“I think it’s awesome. It’s something that needed to be done,” he said. “Lacy Park is the centerpiece of the city.”

Werner said the last time Lacy Park underwent this kind of revamp was about 30 years ago. He credited city staff with helping to complete everything now.
