L.A. Deputy Chief Mario Rueda Chosen to Lead Three-City Fire Command
By Mitch Lehman
The notion of retirement apparently didn’t sit well with Los Angeles Fire Department Deputy Chief Mario Rueda.
“I felt like I still had something to offer,” Rueda said when asked about his new position as chief of the three-city fire command that includes San Marino, San Gabriel and South Pasadena. Rueda will assume his new position on Jan. 11, 2016 when he succeeds Kirk Summers, who has served as interim fire chief the past six months.
“I was looking for something in my neighborhood,” said the Pasadena resident. “I was contacted by people from the Verdugo Cities Fire Command and it seemed to be a good fit. I feel I still have something left to bring to the table. I am really looking forward to working with the women and men of the three departments.”
Rueda was born and raised in Los Angeles and followed two of his older brothers into the fire service.
