Playing without record-setting quarterback Carson Glazier, San Marino couldn’t keep pace with Modesto Central Catholic in Saturday’s CIF State Championship game at Sacramento State University, eventually falling by a final score of 56-21. It was the Raiders’ fourth consecutive state championship. San Marino ends the season with a 15-1 record while winning the Rio Hondo League, CIF Central Division and CIF Regional titles.
“I am proud of my boys,” said head Coach Mike Hobbie immediately after the game. Hobbie immediately handed the runner-up trophy to Glazier, who was not in uniform after suffering an injury in last week’ s State Regional Final, who shared it with the team, most of whom were drenched in perspiration and tears.
Of particular note was the large contingent of Titan fans who made the trip to Sacramento and never stopped cheering, even when victory appeared impossible. At the final gun, the team walked over to the east grandstand where they received a rousing ovation.
