and the recent spate of low gas prices might be a Titan fans’ best friend…

The injury riddled girls’ varsity soccer team finished third in the Rio Hondo League under the direction of Coach Jaime Acuna and will travel the 64.9 miles to Phelan, California where they will square off with Serrano High School on Thursday, Feb. 18 for a 3 p.m. Division 4, 1st round contest. The Diamondbacks won the Mojave River League with a 9-1 mark and finished the season 20-3-2 overall.

After a strong start, the Lady Titans cooled to a 6-3-1 record in the Rio Hondo League, 12-3-5 overall.

The Titan boys’ soccer team makes a return to the CIF playoffs after an 8-year drought and will pay the 59.4-mile visit to St. Margaret’s Episcopal of San Juan Capistrano on Friday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. The Tartans are champions of the Academy League, which they won with an 11-0-1 record, 14-4-1 overall. The Titans, coached by Ozzy Monroy, were the surprise of the Rio Hondo League, finishing with a 5-4-1 mark – 8-7-2 overall – to earn their first trip to the postseason since the spring of 2007.

Those seem like home games when compared with the road trip facing Mihail Papadopulos’s boys’ varsity basketball team when they pack up for their 196.2 one-way trip to Mission Prep High School for Wednesday’s 7 p.m. CIF Division 4AA first rounder. The Royals, who finished 13-1 while winning the PAC-8 League, were 18-8 overall. The Titans were an at-large selection based upon their 14-13 overall record after finishing in a 3-way tie for last in the Rio Hondo League.
