Retirement Party Held for Librarian Rex Mayreis

Fellow library employees, patrons, community members and city employees gathered to say goodbye to librarian Rex Mayreis on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at a Retirement Party for the longtime employee. He will officially retire on Sept. 29 after working for the library for 25 years. After working for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for several years, Mayreis decided he wanted to have a career working in the library. His first librarian job was at the Los Angeles Central Library in the Science and Technology Department. After working there for two years from 1989-91, he started working at San Marino Public Library, which later became Crowell Public Library when it moved into its current building in 2008. Mayreis oversaw the growth of the library’s Chinese-language books and was instrumental in incorporating the “Opera Talk” and “Helping Hands with Hand-Held Devices.” The San Marino Tribune wishes Rex the best of luck in his retirement.
