Harriers Pick Up Two 3rds at Rio Hondo League Finals

Girls’, Boys’ Cross Country Teams Advance to CIF Preliminaries

San Marino High School’s girls’ and boys’ cross country teams each finished in 3rd place at last Thursday’s Rio Hondo League finals, punching their tickets to the CIF Preliminaries this afternoon in Riverside.

Olivia Ruiz finished 2nd overall in the girls’ race, her 19:27 just a second behind La Cañada’s Adena Dipaolo. Freshman Purvaja Bulaji ran her best time in Lacy Park of 20:02 to finish in 4th place.

Juliana Judge (15th, 21:01), Meg Hannan (16th, 21:26), Evelyn Tran (23rd, 22:19), Kat Chen (29th, 23:06) and Alejandra Larriva-Latt (33rd, 25:53) rounded out San Marino’s entry.

The Lady Titans finished with a total team score of 60 to tie for 2nd place with South Pasadena, but the rivals took the runner-up spot due to a tiebreaker.

Eric Lew once again paced the boys, romping to a 5th place finish in a time of 17:07. Sean Chen claimed 13th in 17:54 and was followed to the finish line by Xavier Beck (18th, 18:08), Tom Moffat (19th, 18:13), Patricio Osequeda (21st, 18:22), Alex Powers (24th, 18:31) and Tim Wong (27th, 18:32).

San Marino finished behind Rio Hondo League champions South Pasadena, who claimed a remarkable 7 of the first 10 spots and finished with 20 team points. La Cañada (64) and the Titans (76) finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

In junior varsity action, Katie Wong ran a solid 23:50 to finish 7th overall for the girls while Grant Hold finished 4th overall in the boys’ race with a time of 18:42.

San Marino’s Josh Rose let the Titans to the finish line in the frosh-soph finals with a clocking of 18:25, three seconds ahead of teammate Joseph Weber, who finished 7th.
