Chan Sets SMHS’s Single-Season Rushing Mark, Too

Senior Michael Chan, who earlier this fall broke former Titan Bert McKee’s career rushing record, sewed up the single-season mark as well, amassing 1,719 yards on 335 carries in 10 games as the Titans finished with a 5-6 overall mark. Chan also scored 26 touchdowns.

The previous record was held by Scott Dooley, who in 2008 rushed for 1,711 yards.

Chan ends his career with a total of 3,088 yards on 571 rushing attempts for an average of 5.4 yards per carry and 52 touchdowns in varsity action.

As a freshman, Chan gained 2,104 yards on 269 attempts – an average of 7.82 per carry –while scoring 23 times for the Titan frosh. He also led the team in tackles that year and scored on the first and last plays of the season, a kickoff return to open the campaign and a long run in the final contest against Monrovia.

Though records were not kept for junior varsity games during his sophomore season, Chan easily eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark, giving him more than 6,000 total rushing yards for his 4 seasons at SMHS.

He officially scored a total of 75 touchdowns for the Titans, a figure that does not include several during junior varsity play his sophomore year.
