Puja Balaji and Elijah Carlton, both seniors at San Marino High School, have been nominated for the California Interscholastic Federation’s (CIF) Spirit of Sport Award.

The award recognizes one male and one female state-wide winner during each season of sport and the student-athletes are selected based on exemplary sportsmanship, school and community service and leadership. Each winner receives a $1,000 scholarship and will be recognized at a year-end CIF event in April.

Additionally, 60 Section winners will be awarded $500, which will be presented to one male and one female in each Section, in each season of sport. On Thursday, Carlton was announced as the male winner of the Section scholarship.

Puja and Elijah were selected for the fall season. Puja participates in cross country in the fall and track in the spring while Elijah plays water polo in the fall and swims in the spring.
