Chinese Club Donates Masks to Local Hospitals

The Chinese Club of San Marino recently launched a donation drive to help area healthcare workers.
“Due to the sudden outbreak of Covid-19, many hospital frontline workers such as doctors and nurses were working without enough protective gear,” said Johnson Shyong, one of the club’s directors.
The CCSM asked the San Marino community to donate masks, other protective gear or financial donation to support this cause.
Tony Chou, president of the CCSM stated “We’re very amazed by the generosity and thoughtful support of the community during this week. Everyone’s doing their best to contribute and I’m proud of our club for taking the initiative and doing our part.”
The drive was a great success, as a donation of 30,000 N95 masks, gloves and other much-needed supplies were purchased through donations that totaled $38,000.
All of the masks are in the process of distribution to Huntington Hospital, Methodist Hospital, San Gabriel Valley Medical Center, Alhambra Hospital Medical Center, Garfield Medical Center, Keck USC and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
“I want to thank all of the community volunteers and the Chinese Club of San Marino board of directors for working around the clock to make this happen,” said Shyong. “There were also many moving moments during the donation process. A lady was in thankful tears when dropping off her donation, knowing that her gift can really help and support the hospital frontline workers.”
