City Allows Some Businesses to Start Curbside Pickup

The city of Glendale this weekend is joining Los Angeles County in beginning to ease into the lifting of some restrictions that have been on businesses and public spaces in the city since March, when COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic.
Today the city is reopening golf courses (except for their shops and restaurants) as well as its trails, trailheads and parks, and will enforce social distancing and infection control procedures. At parks, playgrounds, sport courts, picnic amenities and exercise equipment will remain closed and cordoned off.
On Friday, the city began allowing bookstores, clothing stores, florists, music stores, sporting goods stores and toy stores to reopen provided they are following social distancing and infection control protocols and also only providing curbside pick-up service. Additionally, auto dealers are allowed to reopen their showrooms for sales as long as they enforce social distancing and infection control.
The announcements from City Hall follow the decision Wednesday from the L.A. County Board of Supervisors to begin relaxing restrictions on county jurisdictions and allow cities to work with county Department of Public Health officials to develop their own reopening plans. Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a news conference Monday that the state could see businesses and public spaces start to reopen as early as this weekend, but ceded leeway for counties to make their own plans and policies.
As of Friday, the Department of Public Health had logged 697 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Glendale and 44 residents who had died of the disease, which is caused by a novel coronavirus that was declared a global pandemic in March after emerging in China late last year. The county has identified more than 30,000 total cases.
In La Crescenta-Montrose, there were 17 residents confirmed to have COVID-19 and one reported to have died as a result.
A separate chart published by the Department of Public Health indicated Friday that at least nine care centers in Glendale had and staff members, residents and patients confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.
Those locations include Autumn Hills Health Care Center (23 confirmed employees, 42 confirmed residents, five confirmed deaths); Chandler Convalescent Hospital (four employees, 11 residents, three death); Glendale Healthcare Center (eight employees, nine residents, three deaths); Glendale Post Acute Care Center (18 employees, 39 residents, five deaths); Glenhaven Healthcare (15 employees, 18 residents, three deaths); Glenoaks Convalescent Hospital (six employees, 13 residents, five deaths); Griffith Park Health Care Center (one employee, two residents, no deaths); Leisure Glen Post Acute Care Center (seven employees, 13 residents, no deaths) and Park Paseo Independent Living (no employees, four residents, one death).
Two such facilities in Montrose were also recorded in this data, including the Montrose Healthcare Center (21 employees, 33 residents, eight deaths) and the Verdugo Valley Skilled Nursing and Wellness Centre (six employees, 11 residents, one death).
In La Crescenta, there were 11 employees and seven residents listed as having contracted COVID-19 at the La Crescenta Healthcare Center; two deaths were recorded from that location.
