Mary Ann Plumley

Mary Ann Plumley peacefully passed away at home in Pasadena in the presence of her caregivers. A true California native, Mary Ann Sorrentino was born in Los Angeles to Pete and Fini Sorrentino, and grew up in Eagle Rock where she graduated from Eagle Rock High School. While working for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, she met her future husband, Bill Plumley. Married in 1958, they soon bought a house in Glendale where they raised their four children. Mary Ann was always active in the community. She met some of her closest and lifelong friends through the PTA at John Marshall Elementary School. A longtime parishioner at Holy Family Parish in Glendale, she also remained active at her childhood parish of St. Dominic’s in Eagle Rock where she taught CCD for many years.

While her children were young, Mary Ann was a teacher in early education, but moved on to real estate when the children were older. Through her real estate practice, she became involved in many civic activities, including organizations such as the Glendale Board of Realtors, Glendale Kiwanis, the Glendale Police Foundation, the Crime-Stoppers Program, and the Glendale Community Foundation. She eventually ran for city council and served as a councilwoman for the city of Glendale in 1993-1997. Some of her fondest memories were from her years on City Council, and one of her favorite stories was the “drug bust” that she participated in during a ride-along with members of the Glendale Police Department. She was also active at Holy Family parish in Glendale, serving on the Holy Family High School Advisory Board and the Parish Endowment Board.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her daughter Cheryl Dufour, and husband Bill after almost 53 years of marriage. She is survived by sons Michael Egan, Dr. Donald Plumley (Rose), and David Plumley (Donna), grandchildren Danielle McGinnis, Ryan Plumley, Sara Plumley, Matthew Plumley, Andrew Plumley (Monica), Julia Royer (Matt), and Kate Plumley, and great-grandchildren Sean McGinnis, Kylee McGinnis, and Malcolm Plumley.
The family celebrated Mary Ann’s life with Father Jim Bevacqua of Holy Family parish presiding at a private service held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Mary Ann’s name to Holy Family Glendale Parish, 209 E. Lomita Ave., Glendale, CA 91205. Friends and family can share their memories at the Cabot and Sons website, cabotandsonsfh.com.
