EMWPEC to Host Lunar New Year Celebration

East Meets West board members Ambrose Chan (from left), Denis Fasquelle, President Sophia Chan and Annie Brassard prepare for the Lunar New Year gala.

East Meets West Parent Education Club (EMWPEC) will host its Lunar New Year gala online on Feb. 21, from 2-4 p.m. It’s the Year of the Ox in 2021 and the new year begins on the first day of the Chinese calendar, which usually falls in February, with the festivities continuing for 15 days.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many local Lunar New Year celebrations have been canceled. But EMWPEC members are making an effort to continue these important and cultural celebration ceremonies while keeping the community safe.
The run of the show gala will highlight Lunar New Year performing arts and many exciting entertainment activities. The goal is to continue to raise a crisis relief fund to help local schools for the post-pandemic recovery, including providing much-needed PPE equipment and supplies for the staff and students in preparation of school reopenings in the spring.
Following last year’s Face Masks/Face Shields donation drive projects, the 2021 Lunar New Year gala is another community event that EMWPEC will provide to bring the community together. The club invites all local businesses, organizations and private donors to support this cause by becoming the gala sponsors and joining the VIP guest program by visiting emwpec.org/2021gala.
The virtual gala is also free online to the public. Please register at the club website emwpec.org. The event will feature a Lion Dance, performances by children and raffle prizes for those who register before Feb. 21. Club president Sophia Chan will serve as the bilingual English-Chinese MC for the event.
