Reitnouer Lauded by SMFD During Station Visit

Former resident Winnie Reitnouer paid a visit to her good friends at the San Marino Fire Department last week to catch up on old times.

Reitnouer developed a special friendship with the SMFD during the final years of her husband, Lynn’s, life. Along with several other civic positions, Lynn Reitnouer served on the San Marino City Council from 1976-1986 and as mayor from 1980-84 before passing away in March 2016 at the age of 83.

Winnie Reitnouer received a hoodie sweatshirt, and other memorabilia from the SMFD.

Winnie Reitnouer developed a personal relationship with several members of the SMFD who provided care to her husband of 62 years during his final years.

In 2019, Winnie Reitnouer gave a donation to purchase a Zoll AutoPulse resuscitation system, a life-saving piece of equipment that resembles a vest and provides automatic and consistent CPR for those suffering cardiac arrest.

The AutoPulse also allows firefighters who double as paramedics to fight a fire or transport a patient without sacrificing manpower. San Marino Fire Chief Mario Rueda provides Winnie Reitnouer with an occasional update of the successes his department experiences with the AutoPulse system and, during a conversation at a recent meeting of the San Marino City Club, invited her to lunch at the fire station.

During the visit, Reitnouer even took the first ride in a new ambulance that has been put into service by the SMFD.

“Lynn would be so proud,” Winnie Reitnouer said during the visit. Lynn Reitnouer was mayor during the inception of the paramedic program at the San Marino Fire Department.
Winnie Reitnouer received some well-deserved promotional items during Thursday’s lunch.

“How very special and loved I felt with ‘my boys’ and how much I treasure all of you,” Winnie Reitnouer said in an email sent last week.
