Huntington Middle School Wins League Championship

For the first time in school history, the Huntington Middle School boys’ soccer team won the 210 League championship and did so with an undefeated record.
The Foxes clinched the title with a 3-1 victory over visiting South Pasadena Middle School in the championship game last Thursday. It was the school’s second meeting this season, with HMS having posted an earlier 3-2 win.
Huntington Middle School’s starting defense, which included Maximo Madrigal-Reza, Alex Mellis, Jacob Perez and Miles Watlington, improved with every game, with opponents having a difficult time hitting the net. Starting goalie
Nich Acuña blocked more than 21 shots to
goal this season. Defensive midfielder Ashton Liu helped control the middle field,
frequently supplying key passes in their attacking game.
The attacking front was headed by Alex Mavridis, Grant Walker, Madden Darling, Angelos Papadopulos and Parker Wilson, who often provided speed and excellent footwork. Wilson was once again the Foxes’ leading scorer with 10 goals this season, adding to his 12 goals scored last season. It is believed to give him the all-time school record formost goals scored.
Coach Moises Arreola said the championship season was a result of the HMS players’ dedication at practices and working as a team. He is looking forward to next season with several current 7th-graders returning to the squad.
