President Honors Tsay During San Gabriel Valley Stop

President Joe Biden visited Monterey Park on Tuesday, March 14, where he met with families and victims of the Jan. 21 mass shooting where 11 people were killed and nine others injured when a gunman opened fire at a dance studio as the city’s large Asian American population was celebrating the Lunar New Year weekend.
In a speech at the Boys & Girls Club of the West San Gabriel Valley, Biden promised further effort to combat gun violence and called the shooting “a tragedy that has pierced the soul of this nation.”
Biden acknowledged San Marino resident Brandon Tsay, who disarmed the shooter at his family’s dance studio, thus preventing further bloodshed. Biden had honored Tsay, 26, during February’s State of the Union address, where Tsay and his father were guests of the president.
