Unbeaten San Marino Girls’ Tennis Cruises Past Rival La Cañada, Routs Blair

The San Marino High School varsity girls’ tennis team delivered a resounding 18-0 victory over visiting Blair High of Pasadena in a Rio Hondo League match on Sept. 28.

In singles play, No. 2 Mia Lin swept her matches with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. No. 3 Sarah Tran was equally dominant, sweeping her matches with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0. No. 1 Carina Yang won two sets with identical scores of 6-1 before rotating with Emily Xue, who secured a 6-0 victory.

The doubles teams were just as impressive, sweeping all nine matches while conceding only a single game. The No. 1 duo of Olivia Hsu and Kate Chung won two sets with identical 6-0 scores. Chung then teamed up with Elliana Wang, adding a 6-1 win to their performance. The No. 2 pairing of Angela Wang and Audrey Ranabarger earned a sweep with scores of 6-0. The No. 3 team of Katie Hoang and Taylor Hong secured a 6-0 win in one the first round before Hong rotated with Jaylee Wee, and the new duo earned a convincing 6-0 victory. In the final round, Wee alternated with Manami Hayashi, and the new tandem earned a flawless 6-0 win.

The Titans (5-0 overall, 3-0 in league) will visit Monrovia for a league match on Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. before hosting Temple City on Oct. 10.

SAN MARINO 14, LA CAÑADA 4

The Titans were victorious in a league match against La Cañada on Sept. 26.

In singles action, No. 1 Hoang swept with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1. No. 2 Yang won two sets with identical 6-0 scores before her opponent forfeited the final round. No. 3 Chung swept her matches with scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2.

In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Hsu and Kate Kohn won one set with a score of 6-3. Kohn alternated with Sarah Tran, and the new team added a 6-4 victory. The No. 2 pairing of Angela Wang and Lin won two sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-2. The No. 3 tandem of Selene Yung and Ranabarger won a set with a score of 7-5.
