The San Marino High School varsity girls’ tennis team secured a 14-4 Rio Hondo League victory over visiting La Cañada on Oct. 12.
Both No. 1 Katie Hoang and No. 2 Carina Yang each earned a sweep with a trio of 6-0 wins. No. 3 Kate Chung also swept her opponents with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1.
In doubles play, the No. 2 duo of Mia Lin and Sarah Tran won two sets with identical 6-1 scores. The No. 3 pairing of Olivia Hsu and Kate Kohn won two sets with scores of 7-5 and 6-1, and the No. 1 team of Emily Xue and Taylor Hong won a set with a score of 6-4.
The Titans (9-1 overall, 7-0 in league) will visit South Pasadena for a league match on Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. before hosting Monrovia on Oct. 23. The Titans singles players and doubles teams will compete in the Rio Hondo League Tournament on Oct. 25 and 26.
PENINSULA 14, SAN MARINO 4
The Titans suffered their first defeat this season in a nonleague match at Peninsula on Oct. 11.
The No. 1 doubles team of Chung and Hsu won two sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-1. No. 2 Hoang won a set with a 6-1 score, while No. 3 Yang contributed with a 6-4 victory.
SAN MARINO 15, TEMPLE CITY 3
The Titans dominated visiting Temple City in a league match on Oct. 10.
No. 3 Yang earned a sweep with a trio of 6-0 wins, while No. 2 Chung swept with scores of 6-4, 6-2 and 6-1. No. 1 Hoang won two sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-0 before rotating with Xue, who contributed a 6-3 victory to complete the sweep.
The No. 1 doubles team of Lin and Kohn won two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-1. The No. 2 pairing of Ranabarger and Yung won two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1, while the No. 3 duo of Tran and Hsu won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
