SMUSD Superintendent: This Veterans Day, Honor Those Who Protect Our Great Nation

By Linda de la Torre

Special to the Tribune

As we approach Veterans Day, I would like to take a moment to express our profound gratitude to all the veterans who have served our nation with unwavering dedication and bravery. It is with great honor that I extend this heartfelt message to the parents and families of the San Marino Unified School District.

Veterans Day is not just a date on the calendar; it is a day to recognize and remember the sacrifices made by the men and women who have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. These selfless individuals have shown extraordinary courage and commitment, often facing unimaginable challenges, all in the name of service to our country.

Our schools have the privilege of educating the next generation, and it is through the stories and experiences of our veterans that we can instill important values in our children. We can teach them the significance of respect, honor and gratitude. Veterans Day provides an opportunity for us to come together as a community, to pause and reflect on the immense debt of gratitude we owe to our veterans.

This year, I encourage you to take some time to teach your children about the importance of Veterans Day and the sacrifices made by our military service members. Share stories, visit memorials, and participate in local events that honor our veterans. It is through these actions that we can ensure the lessons of gratitude and respect continue to be passed down to future generations.

In our schools, we will be commemorating Veterans Day with educational activities that help our students gain a deeper understanding of the significance of this day. We will also express our appreciation to the veterans in our community through various initiatives.

To all the veterans among our parents, grandparents and guardians, we extend our deepest gratitude for your service. Your sacrifice and dedication have not gone unnoticed, and we thank you for your role in preserving the freedoms and opportunities that our children enjoy every day.

May this Veterans Day be a time for us to unite as a community in honoring our veterans, past and present. Let us remember and celebrate their extraordinary service and the sacrifices they have made to protect our great nation.

Linda de la Torre is SMUSD Superintendent.
