Dog Rescued From House Fire

Firefighters on Dec. 14 responded to a house fire at a one-story, single-family residence and safely rescued the homeowner’s dog from the burning structure.

The initial call reported the kitchen at the residence of 1496 Bedford Road was fully engulfed in flames and had spread through to the attic. Heavy, black smoke was visible from the fire station.

When authorities arrived at the scene, the homeowner said everyone was out of the house except the dog. Fire personnel was able to rescue the animal and proceeded to extinguish the fire with minimal lateral spread by using aggressive tactics, according to SMFD.

Overhaul, salvage and cleanup duties were conducted afterwards, and authorities helped the homeowner gather their belongings once safe.

Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire was accidental and said one of the stove burners was partially turned on and left unattended. The burner eventually started a fire, which spread to the upper cabinets and hood system, and momentarily breached the attic space. No injuries were reported.
