Obituary | Diana Proctor Callery

1924-2020

Diana Proctor Callery died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, September 6, 2020. She was 95. Diana was born in Montclair, NY before moving to Pasadena as a child. She and John Boyle Callery Jr. were married 52 years until his death 1999. They are survived by four children, twelve grandchildren and six “greats.” Her family, friends and community were foremost in Diana’s life.
She is remembered for her piercing intellect, joy of learning, her hospitality and prodigious volunteer career. The founding president of the Pasadena Junior Philharmonic Committee, she also was active on the boards of the Pasadena Junior League, Girl Scouts, and the Community Chest (United Way). She served as president of the board of the Pasadena Girls Club and the Visiting Nurses Association. For several years Diana was an avid docent at both the LA Natural History Museum and LACMA. Her interest in anthropology led her to become a founding board member of the Louis Leakey Foundation.
Through her many friendships, Diana became a founding member of California Associates. She and John loved sailing and were members of the Los Angeles Yacht Club. She was a member of the Valley Hunt Club of Pasadena and an avid bridge player. Her warmth, wit, and energy will be missed.
