Dorothea W. Zinn

Dorothea W. Zinn, born on February 19, 1919, daughter of the Rev. Dr. Bryant and Grace Wilson of Long Beach, Calif., passed blessedly on to heaven on January 8, 2021, at age 101. She died at the Royal Oaks Manor of Duarte, Calif., of complications from COVID-19. She and her husband of 71 years, Dr. Willard Jack Zinn, lived at Royal Oaks after moving from San Marino in 2012.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband and by her sister, Gladys Tann, and is survived by two sons, Douglas Scott (Patricia) of Melbourne, Fla., and the Rev. Peter Stuart (Suzanne) of Indianapolis, Ind. She is also survived by her grandsons: Chaplain Capt. Matthew Scott (Crystal), and Dr. Joel Coyle, respectively.
Dorothea was valedictorian of her class at Santa Barbara High School and went on to Santa Barbara Teacher’s College (now UCSB). After graduation she taught kindergarten for two years. When children came, Dorothea became a full-time homemaker.
She was active in the San Marino Community Church, serving twice on Session, and opting for their Mission Committee each time. She was one of the founding members of their afternoon ministry of English and American culture with newly-moved-in Chinese women. Dorothea was an accomplished pianist also played piano for weekly chapel services at Royal Oaks for several years.
Dorothea will be remembered missed greatly as a loving mother, church leader, and friend.
