W. Hall Evans
Hall Evans, 58-year resident of San Marino, passed away at home in his sleep in March 2021 at the age of 92, with his wife and children present, following a short, rapid decline in health. Like his father, Hall was born in San Francisco. Despite his father’s death when Hall was one year old, Hall thrived, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering from Santa Clara University in 1951. He began his career with an engineering design role at Barrett & Hilp in San Francisco. Moving to Southern California, he served as a research engineer at Northrop Aircraft. In 1958 he founded Evans Engineering & Air Balance to commission the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems of large construction projects in the booming construction industry of Southern California. His firm was selected to review conformance to specifications of many of the largest buildings in the region including the Los Angeles Criminal Courts Building, Olive View Hospital, and the University of California, Irvine Campus. One unique project in 1978 was modeling the ventilation systems at Prudhoe Bay where dangers of petroleum combustibles threatened the safety of ARCO’s pumping facilities on the North Slope of Alaska. For his lifetime engineering achievements, Hall was recognized with the Santa Clara University Distinguished Engineer Award in 1999.
