Steve Koblik Retires From The Huntington

By Stacy Lee

Steve Koblik retired this past Tuesday, June 30 from his position as president of The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens after leading the San Marino cultural institution through numerous milestones in expansion, renovations, acquisitions and fundraising.

“I had a fabulous opportunity to work at the Huntington for nearly 14 years,” he said. “It was an extraordinary gift to me and l loved it.”

Koblik said he’s had so much joy as president of The Huntington and wanted someone else to have the opportunity to experience the same.

“It was the notion one shouldn’t over stay one’s welcome as president,” he said.

Koblik said that he felt this was the right time to retire.

A recent major project that bears Koblik’s name at The Huntington was the opening of the $68 million Steven S. Koblik Education and Visitor Center in April. The entrance complex has 52,000 square feet of new facilities including a 400-seat auditorium, an orientation gallery, four classrooms, meeting and event spaces, a specialty coffee shop and a café. It is situated on 6½ acres of drought-tolerant gardens.
