Fundraising Efforts for ‘The Garden of Flowing Fragrance, Liu Fang Yuan’ Continue

The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens continues to fundraise for Phase II of its Chinese Garden, which is named “The Garden of Flowing Fragrance, Liu Fang Yuan.” Currently, 13.6 million out of the $22 million goal has been collected.

The second phase of construction is ongoing. There were 23 artisans from Suzhou, China who worked with Valley Crest Landscape Companies on three new features on the west and north sides of the lake. They include a rock grotto named Lingering Clouds Peak, the boat-shaped Waveless Boat Pavilion and the Clear and Transcendent Pavilion. The Huntington has an international partnership with Suzhou Institute of Landscape Architecture and Design and Suzhou Construction. The garden remains open to visitors during construction.

The first phase of construction, which lasted from 2004-08, developed the garden’s south and east side. It included a lake, seven pavilions, five stone bridges and sheltered walkways. The garden is landscaped with plants native to China and California.

Phase II of the Garden of Flowing Fragrance is being funded by gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations in addition to in-kind donations. For $100,000 or more, special name recognition is available at sites within the garden. For more information, contact rshea@huntington.
