San Marino teen Got Agua? members Lauren Hickey and Madeline and Matthew Myronowicz, headed off to the Philippines to install three clean drinking water projects in the villages of San Miguel, Getulio, and Navalas last Thursday, Aug. 6. Got Agua? was started to raise awareness of and help more than 1 billion people who lack access to safe drinking water and the almost 3.6 million people, mostly children, that die due to water-related illness every year. Incoming Got Aqua? president and San Marino High School senior, Lauren Hickey, stated that to date, Got Aqua? has installed more than 30 water projects in the Philippines and India and now provides clean drinking water to 15,000 people and helped provide relief to victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan.
Lauren Hickey and Westridge sophomore Madeline Myronowicz installed clean drinking water projects in the Philippines last year and have been looking forward to another successful trip. San Marino High School senior Matthew Myronowicz is on his first trip to the Philippines and has been looking forward to seeing the Got Agua team’s efforts realized in three more clean drinking water projects. To make these projects possible, Got Agua? members raise money, worked with government officials and religious leaders to identify and plan the projects, look for cost effective solutions to deliver clean drinking water and obtain bids for the equipment and labor. In addition, the members have built and maintain a website and social media outreach program.
