San Marino Toddler Saved from Drowning

Representatives of the San Marino Fire and Police Departments joined forces last Sunday afternoon to save a 3-year-old girl who had fallen into the swimming pool at her home and was not breathing.

The police officer who responded immediately started basic life support measures, including clearing her airway and rescue breathing. Seconds later, San Marino’s new specially equipped fire engine arrived and paramedics began pediatric respiratory stabilization, airway fluid removal and intravenous therapy.

Not long after an expedited transport process, the patient began showing signs of recovery and soon began breathing on her own. Her first words were “Where’s my strawberry ice cream?” which was apparently the next item to be served at the backyard barbecue that had been taking place at her home.

After a one-night stay at the hospital, the girl and her family visited the San Marino Fire Dept. where, it was reported, “even the sturdy police officers and firefighters shed a tear or two in happiness.”
