Valentine Will Host Book Fair Next Week

Valentine Elementary School will host its annual Book Fair next week from Tuesday, Nov. 8 through Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Little Theater. Entrance to the Little Theater is available via the Virginia Road parking lot.

This year’s theme, “Read to Believe,” will be highlighting the fantasy, legend, and mythology genres along with all of everyone’s favorite fable and fairy tale adventures. Mrs. Nelson’s Book Fair Company is returning as this year’s vendor and will be donating 20 percent of all sales to the Valentine PTA. New this year will be a school assembly, featuring award-winning author and illustrator David Shannon.

The three-day event kicks off on Tuesday with Donuts at Dawn from 7:45-8:30 a.m. when winners of the bookmark contest will be announced. The Book Fair is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and until 7 p.m. on Wednesday with the Pie ’N Burger truck arriving at 4:30 p.m. with meals for purchase.

Marisa Kelly, Jeannie Kim and Janice Segimoto have now chaired the Valentine Elementary Book Fair for three years in a row. They all said they enjoyed converting the school’s Little Theater into a pop-up bookstore so the students can enjoy the same books that they did when they were younger. The three Valentine moms also noted how seeing the children’s excitement about books makes chairing the event very fulfilling.

The mission of the Book Fair is to promote the love of reading, introduce young readers to new and different worlds, and raise much-needed funds for the Valentine Elementary School PTA’s enrichment programs and to help refresh the library with new books. The community is encouraged to come by and shop to support Valentine at this annual event.
