The San Marino Area Chapter of National Charity League held its 55th annual Debutante Ball at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Friday, Dec. 22. “Embrace Your Destiny” was the theme for the 2017 Debutante Season, celebrating both the dreams achieved and the dreams to come of the young ladies who were presented on the arms of their fathers.
The ball paid tribute to 22 young women who volunteered more than 14,000 hours at more than 20 agencies during their six years of membership. Agencies supported by the San Marino Area Chapter include Almansor Center, Armory Center for the Arts, Foothill Family Services, LAC/USC Medical Center, Pasadena Humane Society, Pasadena Ronald McDonald House, Villa Esperanza, San Marino and South Pasadena Public Libraries and Unified School Districts, Pasadena Senior Center, Huntington Memorial Hospital, Ability First, Kidspace Museum, Union Station, South Pasadena-San Marino YMCA and Main Street Attraction.
NCL President Christine Chin and ball chairs Christina Pink and Jacky Samartin greeted guests upon their entry into the ballroom. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of each debutante on the arm of her father as she was introduced with an acknowledgement of her accomplishments and special NCL memories. The mothers of the young women were also introduced and recognized for their dedication to the mission of NCL, which serves to foster mother-daughter relationships in a philanthropic organization committed to community service, leadership and cultural experiences.
