Police Arrest Los Angeles Man for Lewd Conduct

Phuong Bui

San Marino police have arrested a middle-aged man on the misdemeanor charge of lewd conduct in a public place after he offered to engage in sexual activity with a man who was seated in a parked car, according to a statement issued by the SMPD last week.

At about 7:36 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, police responded to the intersection of Huntington Drive and Ridgeway Road regarding a “solicitation of lewd conduct.”

The victim told police that an unknown man, later identified as Phuong Bui, 47, of Los Angeles, approached the driver’s side of the car that he was sitting in. The man in the parked car apparently was drinking a cup of coffee recently purchased from the Starbucks at 2265 Huntington Drive. Bui did not ask for money in exchange for the sexual activity, according to San Marino Police Chief John Incontro.

“There was no money involved, but you can’t come up to somebody and ask them to engage in sex,” Incontro said
last Friday morning, the day after the alleged incident occurred. “You just can’t do that. It’s against the law.”

After Bui allegedly asked the victim to engage in sexual activity, the victim immediately reported the incident to police. Police searched the area for the suspect and were able to locate him within a short period of time, police said.

Bui was arrested for the misdemeanor crime of lewd conduct in a public place and was taken to Alhambra City Jail for booking and then released. Bui has been given an initial court date of Aug. 27.

Bui may also have to pay a $500 fine, according to police.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact San Marino Police Det. Brian Wong at (626) 300-0719.
