After a solid fall season, 16 San Marino High School athletes earned All-Rio Hondo League honors from coaches.
Taylor Suetsugu was one of two Titans to earn All-League first-team honors.
Football brought home the most accolades with eight athletes being recognized. Seth Matzumoto was named the defensive most valuable player, an award he shared with Monrovia’s Hunter Nicely. The senior linebacker led the team with 115 tackles and three interceptions.
Offensive lineman Seth Canul made the first team along with quarterback Connor Short and Trond Grizzell. Short threw for 1,143 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions on the season, and Grizzell was his No. 1 target, totaling 55 receptions for 1,012 yards and three scores.
Junior running back Nick Singhal was a second-team selection after rushing for 529 yards and four touchdowns.
Defensive lineman Koroush Hassibi was the lone Titan to make the first-team defense after recording 41 tackles and four sacks. Canul, who played on offense and defense, earned a spot on the second team.
Trond Grizzell made the All-Rio Hondo League first team as a wide receiver.
Defensive back Yohannes Zerihun and defensive tackle Alex Uriarte were second-team selections.
After a rough start with four consecutive defeats, first-year head coach Justin Mesa guided the team to three Rio Hondo League victories and placed second in the standings to qualify for a CIF Southern Section postseason berth. The Titans (4-7 overall record) fell to Orange, 48-7, in the first round of the Division 10 playoffs.
Three members of the SMHS varsity girls’ volleyball team were recognized by league coaches. Junior Leela Anvekar was the lone Titan to make the first team, and sophomore Erin Hill was a second-team selection. Senior libero Caitlin Nguyen received an honorable mention.
Head coach Joseph Rios guided the squad to an overall record of 6-17.

Five members of the San Marino High School varsity boys’ water polo team earned All-Rio Hondo League honors.
Idris Elgabalawy and Taylor Suetsugu were first-team selections, Cole Campagnolo and Elijah Carlton made the second team, and Haroon Elgabalawy earned an honorable mention.
Head coach Robert Zirovich guided the Titans to an overall record of 15-9. San Marino placed third in the Rio Hondo League standings and fell short of upsetting the Big VIII champion in the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs. The Titans were edged by Martin Luther King of Riverside, 10-8, in the first round.
