3 – Wicks Continue Mat Dominance

San Marino’s Wrestling Wicks keep racking up the pins while collecting belts, hats and championships. Evan Wick, a four-time Rio Hondo League champions during his days at SMHS, took a “break” from college wrestling, which turned out to be just a two-day hiatus, during which the 2016 graduate qualified for the United States Olympic trials. Ranked #3 in the nation, Wick will attempt to represent the United States in freestyle wrestling, a discipline he hasn’t practiced in more than nine months. A redshirt junior at the University of Wisconsin, Evan competes in the 165 lb. weight class for the Badgers and, hopefully, the United States of America.

His “little” brother Luka, a junior at San Marino High School, recently pinned his way through the 152 lb. weight class at the prestigious Carter Invitational Tournament. He is set to wrestle in the Doc Buchanan tournament next week. Luka is also undefeated in high school action, having won two straight Rio Hondo League titles.

And there is good news for Zander Wick, Evan’s twin brother, who underwent two hip surgeries and had to suspend his wrestling career. A return to the mat could be imminent for Zander, who also won four straight Rio Hondo League championships while at SMHS.
